A Prayer for Good Friday 2020

It snowed on Good Friday 2020 in Rochester.
A pertinent picture displaying the gloominess of this day.
The hopes of spring frozen over the ground.
You sensed the coldness, darkness, and suffering of this day.
Even the weather of the day causes us to pause and lament.

You willingly went to the cross, experienced suffering, and endured shame.
Your death has brought us life.
Your great love has gifted us with grace, mercy, and reconciliation.
Despite the bad news of today, we have the good news of the gospel.

We reflect and meditate on this fateful Friday.
You know the pain of humanity more than we can realize.
You are with us in our grief.
You empathize with us in our sickness.
You have walked through the betrayal and denial of your closest friends.
Good Friday gives us hope because we can lament with a Savior who understands.

The snow today insulates us more during this lockdown.
Perhaps, You welcome us to bring our grief to You today.
Slowing us down invites us to process our pain today.
Your love made Good Friday Good.
And we hold on to that promise at this moment.
