A Prayer for Memorial Day 2020

Today, we remember those who sacrificed their lives for America.
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
We weep with those who weep.
Parents lost their children.
Husbands and wives lost their spouses.
Children lost a mom or dad.
Memorial Day pauses us to honor these individuals and their families.

As many of us enjoy this day of rest, we will not forget.
Though many parades are postponed for this year, we will still remember.
We experience liberty on account of others.
So let us live this day with gratitude.

This day directs us back to the gospel.
You paid the ultimate price so that we can experience freedom.
Your death and resurrection give us new life.
So Lord, on this day, we remember the sacrifice of others.
Because laying down a life for a friend ultimately points back to Your example.

Amen
